Default What's wrong with mage's 49 & 51 earth pets ?

Hi,

Dinged 51 recently and was eager to mem the 51 earth pet, expecting to see a noticable difference with 49 pet. the only one I've seen so far is that the pet fares worse versus the same mob than a 49 focused one. Oh yeah, sorry, it went from 56 -> 58 max hit.

I compared the 2 pets fighting Broog Bloodbeard, named HG in Rathe.
So, 49 pet was able to tank him to the end with a couple heals, while 51 pet died with Broog at 40% and I had to summon another.

I had a closer look at the Pet Guide and I fail to understand why all the first post 50 pets we get have LESS hp than their lvl 49 counterparts.

Looking forward to hearing for more experienced mages out there.

From 51+ each pet takes on extra attributes than they had before. Isn't it only 100 HP less? And the difference in pet levels and damage (max hit and also root DD) should more than make up for that 100 less HP.

Will have to test that further, but I can assure you the bery first 51 pet I summoned took a beating...

If I remember correctly, focused earth got better stats than non focused one (better avoidance / dmg mitigation ?) that might explain that, I don't know.

I also checked in my logs after reading the pet guide that from 51 onward earth pet root causes damage (51-55 dmg):

[Sat Apr 18 08:59:32 2020] a drolvarg sentry was hit by non-melee for 55 points of damage.
[Sat Apr 18 08:59:32 2020] A drolvarg sentry's feet sink into the ground.

-> this way you know whether you have a max level pet (45) or not

I think it's less than the 51+ pets are bad, and more that the 49 pets are way overpowered. On my blue mage I used the 49 earth until DDD at 56, and then the 57 earth is really amazing.

For real? And 49 earth pet, well I should say 37-41 (effective level) earth pet did not have a hard time hitting mobs when you were leveling 50 - > 56?

Interesting

From my memories as a mage on blue, the 49 focused pets were mostly better in most cases to the first tier of 51+ pets unless you were fighting higher level stuff where those extra levels would make a difference. The 49 pets were always awesome and a huge boost to the earlier progression of pets . (49>>>44>39>34>29 etc...)

I can't say because i'm not 50+ yet, but when I was getting my focus items to boost pets, i've been told they indeed only work untill 49.
After that you need new focus items, to increase the 51+ pets the same way.
Haven't checked in on that specifially yet, but have been told it's a lot more gruesome to obtain then the pre-50 focus items.

Keep in mind, that your 49 focus pet, is stronger then your regular 49 pet, meaning that the 51 pet is basically a correct scale up.
You are comparing your focus pet vs regular, that's a no deal, despite of level difference...

I don't think they had much issue no, mostly because those are were the level mobs I was fighting anyways. Also the damage shield does a lot of the work!

For grouping I would use 51 earth and then 54 water because obviously they do more melee damage and I'm not chain summoning.

For soloing I used 49 earth and I mostly soloed city guards ( lvl 38ish? ) until 55/56 when they mostly greened out. Focused 49 is just so strong (especially with DS and haste).
