Well, on this parse the mob fought for like 2 minutes then agroed on the mage when he got too close.
Proximity of another player shouldn't affect the pets ability to keep aggro. A pet should be able to hold aggro even if the mage, or someone in his party, is standing next to the mob that the pet is fighting. Read the forum post I linked.

Pets shouldnt hold agro over pcs but yeah they should generate more. I actually used epic into GoD because it outagrod a raid geared warrior so even though the mob won't attack the pet, it was still at the top of agro list... So AE taunt=more agro
Pets SHOULD hold aggro over PCs. In fact there's a lot of evidence that shows that pets are supposed to hold aggro better than tanks in our current era.

I will take a look, but what you are saying should happen didn't happen in this parse? Or am i misunderstanding you. Epic pet here generated a ton of threat, but panther agroed mage when he got too close (never attacked the panther or casted a spell on it).

Keep an eye on your pets health, when its down to 40% start meleeing yourself. This takes the pressure of your pet for a bit. (Cloth armour helps here if you can afford it)
Literally from your link. There are tons of examples there that says pet doesn't hold agro over PC in melee range. I mean, it did much earlier in the timeline but I don't see why you're bringing it up here.

So I got around to taking a closer look at this data since someone asked but stun / proc frequency on the pet. Even though the stuns were resisted per the OP, they are actually logged in the data as 'Lekn begins to cast a spell.'. The procs are also logged as 'Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.'

Here are the extracts of that (left on first engage and last hit for reference):
Quote:
[Sat Dec 01 07:48:38 2001] Lekn hits mist panther for 50 points of damage.

[Sat Dec 01 07:48:40 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.
[Sat Dec 01 07:48:42 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.

[Sat Dec 01 07:49:08 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:10 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:17 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:21 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:23 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:24 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:31 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:35 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:48 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:50 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:49:53 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:01 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:02 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:04 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:04 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:15 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:29 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:45 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:49 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:49 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:50:50 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.
[Sat Dec 01 07:51:05 2001] Mist panther is slashed by shards of elemental power.
[Sat Dec 01 07:51:11 2001] Lekn begins to cast a spell.

[Sat Dec 01 07:51:29 2001] Lekn tries to hit mist panther, but misses!
So the frequency is pretty curious, here is the timing in seconds from first engage:
Quote:
0 seconds (first engage)

2 seconds (stun)
4 seconds (proc)
18 seconds (proc)
30 seconds (stun)
32 seconds (proc)
39 seconds (proc)
43 seconds (proc)
45 seconds (proc)
46 seconds (stun)
53 seconds (proc)
57 seconds (proc)
70 seconds (proc)
72 seconds (proc)
75 seconds (proc)
83 seconds (proc)
84 seconds (stun)
86 seconds (proc)
86 seconds (proc)
97 seconds (stun)
111 seconds (stun)
127 seconds (proc)
131 seconds (proc)
131 seconds (proc)
132 seconds (stun)
147 seconds (proc)
153 seconds (stun)

171 seconds (last logged hit)
Can't find a good 'smoking gun' on how these should work, it would appear random as there are back-to-back procs in the data, and some very long periods between stun or proc casts.

Timing between stun casts (in seconds):
28, 16, 38, 13, 14, 21, 21

Timing between procs (in seconds):
14, 14, 7, 4, 2, 8, 4, 13, 2, 3, 8, 3, 0, 41, 4, 0, 16

Longest time between stuns = 38 seconds
Shortest time between stuns = 13 seconds

Longest time between procs = 41 seconds
Shortest time between procs = 0 seconds

Longest period between either stun or proc = 16 seconds

Total stuns = 8
Total procs = 18
Total stuns + procs = 26
Total parse time = 171 seconds
Average stun cast = 21.375 seconds
Average proc rate = 9.5 seconds
Average stun + proc rate = 6.577 seconds

Sooo.... not sure what to make of all that. There are casts of stuns happening very quickly after procs and vice versa, so not sure they are related. Best I can tell the recast time on stun was maybe 14 seconds, with a dice roll ever 7 seconds or so to determine if another cast occurs? Doesn't fit perfectly, but close (there are rounding errors in the log time stamps obviously).

Curious if anyone had the Lucy data on the stun, odd recast times. Also curious if the EQMac log data was taken before or after the Luclin 'pet re-tuning'. When was the data of that server's last patch in the timeline? If after July of 2002, it seems like the logs of pet casts may be suspect (but could still be best data we have to go off of, exception being this epic pet parse in era).

Mist Panther on p99 is a level 60 that has a max hit of 280 so I dont even know how that pet is keeping up with it in those logs

It's because the mist panther on p99 is not classic. My guess is it was upgraded at some point after Velious.

EDIT: Should say, I did notice it was 280 hit per the wiki... never verified actual in game hit.

It is also interesting that the mist panther summons in the logs, granted that in those logs he is level 50+, but is still only hitting consistently for 40s and not the typical 100s+ like an above level 50 mob would do.

[Sat Dec 01 07:49:12 2001] mist panther says 'You will not evade me Lekn!'

Its pretty much why the original poster chose that mob, its quite the anomaly. Has like 70k+ HP and very low hits, so you can do very long parses on it.

Any dev commentary if you would like some additional number crunching / research?

I noticed people in the logs are also saying how powerful the pet is, maybe back on live the HP was 3k and not 4k but the pets AC was much higher?

The pet on here has a lot of hp but gets CHUNKED, even by lower level mobs
