What’s the best way to make plat early on?
Bone chips, death fist belts, HQ animal pelts?
Do people buy these things anymore?

Sisters is good but almost always camped. If you are a caster you are going to have to zone to vendor and then someone will probably take your camp.

stack of bone chips - 10pp
HQ bear skin - 30pp
HQ cat / HQ wolf pelts or skins - 4pp to 10pp depending how desperate tradeskiller is.
Stack of spidering silk - 15pp
Stack of spider silk - 10pp
Polar bear skin - 30pp
---------------------------------------

These are the easiest lowbie mats to farm for quick plats.

Edited to add polar bear skins! Thanks @ AkashicRecord. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

People were routinely buying Polar Bear Skins from me (around Halas) for 30pp.
