For someone concerned with phrasing, you should consider adding this prefix to your posts: "it's my opinion that _________"

It makes no sense! It sounds like you're being a dick, even if you like the person.

"sorry to hear that bud" is something they frequently say now to people they ostensibly like.

Consider how much better "sorry to hear that, man" comes off. Seems empathetic.

I don't like this one bit.
