I get that people like to play this game for nostalgia, but how can people invest their lives into this being an EMU? I'll admit I poopsocked on live back in 1999-2002, but that people still do it today is crazy

To a certain extent, sure it is. But context is key. For some people (probably yourself included) video games take up a large percentage of their time. At that point, is there really any difference between playing P99 or playing some other game for hours on end?

If the argument is "why invest so much time into something that could just disappear eventually" then you should never play any MMO at all, emulated or otherwise.
