Default Can't see any PC or NPC models, only the weapons they're holding

So I got the last patch a few days ago when it came out, same process as always, everything was working fine.

Today I log in and all I can see in character select are the weapons my various toons are holding. It doesn't say any of my files are out of date, I can log in, I just can't see anything other than the zone itself and weapons being held by npcs and pcs. Everyone looks like a shadowed man. If somebody isn't holding any weapons I can't see them at all, other than their floating name.

I tried reinstalling the patch, which didn't work, and nothing else has changed or been installed or updated on the computer. I think they enabled an XP bonus for thanksgiving weekend, not that it should have done this.

Any ideas, or just do a full re-install?

Someone came over yesterday and moved your monitor cable from the gfx card to the port on your mobo. Or, something else happened that disabled your 3d card. This is assuming "everything was working fine" after the patch means you actually did log in and play, and didn't just fire up the client to char select rq. If that's the case, reinstall and redo the patch because you probably overwrote the folder(s) and their contents instead of just the contents - and the patch only contains modified files and you still need some of the original contents of the various subfolders contained within the patch.

Wall of text. Yay?

I did play quite a bit after installing the patch on the day it came out, and everything was fine (other than the no spell worn off message bug).

Doesn't the 3d card render the entire game? Cause everything looks normal and runs fine, I just can't see any character models all of a sudden.

Going to try a full fresh install.

Different models are rendered by different engines. It's a common prank we used to play on each other.

Hmm.. never heard of that. I *am* using an adapter to convert display port to HDMI, because my monitor only has an HDMI input and my video card only has DP out. It's never been an issue though.

Anyway thanks for the tips.

Maybe I'm thinking of a different game, but I swear it's the exact same behavior. Some models are just invisible or like shadowmen like you said - we'd do it to the new people unboxing display units when they weren't looking and sick them on troubleshooting it for an hour to test to see if they'd ask for help or just stay on the clock trying random stuff.
