Default How do I get rid of the thunder sound?

The in-game thunder sound is something that has annoyed me for the last decade or so. Is there any way to get rid of it without turning the sound off? Can I remove a file or something?

I got sick of headache-inducing thunderclaps every 5-6 seconds so I found out how to change the files.

Step 1: Download S3DSpy 1.2. EverQuest bundles visual elements into .s3d files, sounds into .pfs files.

Step 2: Extract and run S3DSpy, point it to your EverQuest folder. You'll see a list of files on the left.

Step 3: Find snd2.pfs, thunder1.wav and thunder2.wav will be on the list on the right. You can either delete the files and leave it at that, or swap them out with softer thunder, duck quacks, whatever you want. Just make sure the filenames are the same.

Step 4: /quit and come back.

In the words of Depeche Mode, enjoy the silence.
^^ Works like a charm!

damn i found a much better way to get rid of thunder in about 10 seconds of my own research, and without even downloading potental virus app (as per commented thread)

just edit SoundAssets.txt (in EQ folder) and delete these 2 lines 143^thunder1.wav 144^thunder2.wav

159^RainLoop is also pertinent, if rain is your enemy.

Yea it is. It's the only thunder I hear. Scares the crap out of me every time. It's painfully loud.
