As an American, Oakland has embarrassed me for some time.

I remember vividly the first time I flew into Oakland. The cracked, stained concrete floors; the flickering lights overhead and the broken windows. If someone had offered me Chiclets, I would've been certain we somehow landed in Tijuana.

Truly, truly, one of the shittiest cities in the nation. The wart on San Francisco's otherwise pristine ass.
