Rune/Shieldskin

Do they block all the damage of an incoming spell, even if it greatly exceeds the amount of damage the rune blocks? Preparing to possibly eat an Ice Comet from Eldreth for the Words of Darkness Quest and I was wondering if my shitty low level 20 rune will block the entire thing, or if I will be on the hook for the rest of the 1000 damage that Shieldskin doesn't block. Or do I have to use Harmshield here and hope that I have time to feign before he starts casting again.

No, you're rune will absorb a part of the ice comet and the rest will damage your health.

so for instance if you have 200 points of rune, then you will take 900dmg form an ice comet.

That sucks. What is the chance I live if I mez her, pull eldreth away a little bit, then harmshield and feign? I have a friend who is ready to tag and kill Cyanelle.

It sounds like I have to kill her multiple times so I cannot afford to die a bunch.

Get Levi and sow. Mez/root and train him away. Have friend tag and pull mob away. Fd or zone aggro and come back and finish.

Not familiar with how close these mobs stand to each other, but having a Druid/Ranger cast Harmony on the wizard may be your best bet.

If there's not any druids in Lake Rathe there are often Druids in both Rathe Mountains and SK, can't hurt to ask in OOC before you try Harmshield/FD. Make sure they know Harmony is unresistable so there is no risk at all to them, a lvl 5 druid can cast it on a lvl 60 mob or whatever.

On a somewhat related note, runes do not block DoT damage. I learned that the hard way in the bottom of Kaesora!

Splitting works fine with lev and sow like suggested, you have to immediately harmshield and start running to ZL, otherwise Eldreth nukes you right away. However, you have to kill her multiple times unfortunately which is annoying getting re-levitated and re-sowed.

However an rogue on an epic quest came by and despawned Eldreth for us, so the whole affair was a moot point. Someone should edit the wiki for Cyanelle or the quest and let them know that you're just supposed to wait until Eldreth is gone, not split them. Eldreth is on a 5-7 hour timer apparently so you have plenty of time to murder Cyanelle alone. Dropped the book on the 2nd and 6th kills.

Was fun splitting a level 49 mob though. Would do again. Would recommend trying that instead of waiting for Eldreth to despawn. Cause it's only fun when it's dangerous and you might die.
