Welcome back to Norrath! I see some other people have already given some leveling advice, so I'll just toss in some newbie plat advice.

Save any: Medium/High Quality pelts, Lightstones/Greater Lightstones, Deathfist Belts, and Bone Chips that you come across, and sell them in the tunnel. Your brother will need the Bone Chips for his pet, but they're really easy to farm, and once he's got a few bags worth, you can comfortably sell the rest. It'll be a while before he goes through them.

Keep the wiki handy at all times, too. If you're going into a zone, check out some of the quests or items that may drop. You might be surprised by how decent some of the stuff is, and how easy it may be to obtain.
