honestly i think it would do better if it was a spiritual successor.. a lot of people who haven't played before are likely going to want to play a fresh 2017 game rather than a 1999 game remade... i just think a lot of aspects of the game are good-- you could essentially just remake it but re-name everything so you don't have to quarrel with sony. like you don't have to make the same names but have like all the cool parts of the world/dungeon design such as random portals in the woods guarded by spectres, underwater goblin temples, and dope starting cities

Judging by what we've seen so far, that's basically what Pantheon is. Except with new stuff too and things that weren't possible back in 1999.

Yet I'd still like to see a 2016 graphical remake of EQ.

no modern mmos match the mindless grinding aspect of eq.
FTFY

Content in this game involves sitting on your ass to regenerate mana or pressing the kick button every few seconds for countless hours just to increment a level number. It would be a commercial failure compared to the polished turd MMOs we have today with story driven quests and well designed dungeon content. Then again there's plenty of grind heavy MMOs in the Korean market, but their combat is more involved than EQ which is the appeal.

Isn't https://pantheonmmo.com/ the remake already in the works?

You aren't getting it. MMOs replaced downtime, danger and high risk versus high reward (sitting on your hands), with low risk and non-stop action combat that devalued your accomplishments ... and yet these new games aren't even drawing as many active accounts as EQ did. In fact, most of them can't even survive on the subscription model.

Not that I think an EQ clone or even Pantheon will ever be "the next big thing", but there are a lot of people who will appreciate that model more than the current. People want a little mystery and danger in their MMO. They want to be able to fail. That was what made EQ great and different. You had to put your time on the line.

Where did you find these fine images? This from somebody else?
Yep, those were done by Xevin who was inspired by toddfx, who did the ones you posted. Here are their original threads - Xevin's: http://www.project1999.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=21477, toddfx's: http://www.project1999.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=18950. Although Xevin's are also brilliant, Todd Kumpf is probably the single most talented person to ever partake in P99. His work is ubiquitous - chances are everyone here has seen something he's worked on whether it was a hi-tech Lenovo commercial or some 3D art in a movie or advertisement. He mainly used EverQuest as a source of inspiration and did tons of 3D renders - if there was ever going to be an EverQuest remake (let's be real, there won't - support Pantheon instead), Todd is the guy you'd want to hire for concept art, visual direction, and 3D animation. Here are some other EQ-related things he made:

The only thing Wildstar has proven is that a generic WoW clone with unforgiving DDR PvE encounters is not something most people find fun or want in an oldschool game. Not even vanilla wow fans thought it was enjoyable and it couldn't have been further from what EQ fans were looking for.
