Thumbs down What else can i do? It just won't work :'(

Hey guys, i have tried to get this game working but i don't know what is happening! I got the copied titanium version on the harddrive, which worked fine on my friends computer once she had reformatted, but i have tried for a few days now on and off and still can't get it to work! I followed the instructions with patchme etcetc, I have played with the resolutions, i have formatted my computer, running in compat mode and administrator and all the other troubleshooting options.

I can open everquest, it'll go to the server select which is fine, then the screen goes black and the music comes on with the loading bar, but without the everquest logo. It then gets to character select (you can see the 'create a character' bar but not the graphics, then it says 'everquest has detected that you client has crashed'.

Graphics drivers are apparently up to date...

Im running-

Windows vista home premium 32bit
Dell
Inspiron 1545
Intel Core2 Duo @2.00ghz
Memory 3gb ram
Mobile intel 4 series express chipset family (graphics)

Im a bit of a n00b when it comes to this kinda stuff so im not sure what else to write there!

If anyone has any ideas it'd be much appreciated as i can't wait to start playing again!!! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

It sounds like you are most likely having the same video issue as a person in another thread, so I'll paste what I told him here and hope it works for you.

Last night when I installed the game I had it running full screen nicely. Today it defaulted to windowed mode (no big deal) but when I try to make it full screen it crashes and even messes up the gamma on my system after its gone. I HATE playing games in windowed mode. Also I'm having the same problem as a few other people: when I click certain places on the screen sometimes it minimizes the game for me. Thoughts?

Thanks!
As far as crashing when you go full screen, the only thing I can think of is to check your eqclient.ini (Should be in the root directory of your EverQuest folder, C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest or something similar) and make sure the lines for width/height do not exceed your current resolution on your computer.

For example, when I was playing on my Mac, the video section of my client.ini looked something like this:
Code:
[VideoMode]
Width=1280
Height=800
WidthWindowed=800
HeightWindowed=600
WindowedWidth=1024
WindowedHeight=768
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=60
That exceeded the resolution on my gfs computer so when I tried playing on her computer using my eqclient.ini it kept crashing until I went in and manually changed the lines to this:
Code:
[VideoMode]
Width=1024
Height=768
WidthWindowed=800
HeightWindowed=600
WindowedWidth=1024
WindowedHeight=768
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=60
Hope that helps.

Aww, got so excited then, it appeared to be the right size after changing the windowed height/playing with that, but then once i got to the loading 'everquest' screen it just went black again... then crashed on the character creation page...

I'm really not sure what else it could be?

My computer's primary resolution is 1366 x 768 (it's a widescreen laptop), could this be a problem? The maximum height in the eq client is now also 768

on the login page click the options button

it should come up with the graphics adaptor click next

remove all models and click next

change resolution to your monitors native resolution if it's listed, or else try 1024x768

click finish

close eq and try again

failing that, try installing WinEQ2
it's free, and it also sorts out some issues with dual or quad core processors

thanks but unfortunately that didn't work either, I have just tried the same thing on my old computer only to have the exact same result, so I am starting to think that maybe something is wrong with my titanium edition (copied from a friend). I am going to re-download using bit torrent and try again.

Do you have the latest possible drivers for that Intel graphics chipset? Also download/install/update the latest DirectX9 Redistributable from Microsoft and see if that helps.

Download and use WinEQ2. Google it. Should fix it.
