One of the most obvious ways to observe this is to take a high teens char with maxed weapon and offense skills and str buffed high (say 180+) and you will see the occasional hit that exceeds the 28 (2*14) damage cap for levels 10-19. Fight with the same char and low (100-ish) str and you won't see any of those over cap hits. I'll admit that I have never tested whether high str is any different from other ways to boost ATK rating (i.e. weapon & offense skills, wolfform & other buffs) in its effect on max hit. Certainly other boosts to ATK rating do shift hit distribution, just not sure if they affect max hit.

If you don't care about min/maxing and want a more comfortable low-mid level experience then str is worth having. However, if you want to min/max for end game, then you need to max the more important stat which is stamina. Str buffs are also stupid easy to get.

Go STA and be frustrated leveling up as you are constantly encumbered.
Go STR and be frustrated at 60 that you didn't go STA for that extra 100 HP. Pick your poison. I went 20 strength myself because High Elves start with a miserable 65 base str, which I believe is the lowest of any melee class/race combo in the game. Having 85 was a significant boon to my quality of life leveling up. If you're starting from scratch on a weak race, I would consider it. | ||
