Most desired classes in raids?
Hi all,
Returning player here. I haven’t played since 2001 in Velious... I remember when I played, I picked a Druid, only to find out that nobody wanted one in groups / raids. I remember the most desired classes were Cleric and Enchanter. There was never enough of those to go around.. I also remember rogues being in demand since their dps was insane. After installing the game last night, I made a warrior, but I think I’m regretting my decision. Warriors, while great tanks, will be hard to find raids with as raids only need one warrior tank. Out of 50 people. I think finding 5 man groups as a warrior will be easy though. So what classes are really desired by guilds for raids besides cleric and enchanter? Someone in ooc told me monk, but there’s a million monks out there (very popular class) and raids only need one puller. I think same for Bards too? Needed, but you only need one.. What are some classes that guilds go crazy over if they get a high level app?

Every class played competently is a large asset to any raid. That being said Tanks, Clerics, pullers, wizards are extremely desirable in ALL raids.

Play whatever you want....also you're mistaken about only needing 1 of any particular class.

Raids are generally happy to have a good line up of warriors. Damage spikes happen, defensive runs out of time, tank switches fail so it is good to have spare.
Some fights, basically when there aren't much AoE and too many warriors, they even get to unleash very respectable DPS with berserk and precision. Hell, on AoE fights sometimes the more fragile DPS will die early on but the warriors will get to keep chopping away for longer. Just because your warrior might not end up being the guild's super star tank doesn't mean it is a wasted option. I say this as someone who has played several scrub warriors, and enjoyed all of them. If you are dead against your warrior, rogue and cleric are always in demand too, as Baler says.

It seems to me that many raiding guilds will take anyone as long as they are competent.
If what you want are sweet loots, you would honestly be better off playing a less popular class. Paladins and rangers have almost no competition. To a lesser extent, shadowknights, rogues and wizards will be easy to gear too.

Don't come crying to us when your raid wipes because two dozen non cleric/rogues show up and fumble around the mob.
|| Don't come crying to us when your raid doesn't have enough cleric CH chain or rogue dps and wipes. Only need a few good tanks. two maybe three shaman one or two enchanters one paladin to swap to rogue after buffing one or two rangers if speed bump is needed else they swap to rogue one necro is arguably worth being there for twitches one druid for buffing then swap to rogue or spot heal one or two bards, tank group songs or cleric mana songs enough monks/sk for pulling, then sk should swap to rogue This means,.. roll a cleric or rogue as they are in unlimited desire. Even if most of the classes listed above don't show up, with one good tank, clerics and rogues. You can down targets. so the thing about wizard. Classic & Kunark dragons.. you can nuke them down with enough wizards. Come Velious rogues out dps them.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Very insightful for helping me make my big decision.
I’m interested in making a rogue, but I do have a question. On the Daybreak forums, rogues are generally considered to be the worst class in the game for classic EQ? Is this because the classic EQ per Daybreak is different from the project 1999 classic EQ? Balances changes?
