Default Morin Shadowbane in Kithicor was not added until Sept. 1999

Morin Shadowbane, the Ranger GM in Kithicor, was not added until the September 13th/14th patches. Before this time, Rangers had to train in either Kelethin or Surefall.

Several bits of evidence for this.

Newsgroup posts referencing his addition:

No, not even close. Kithicor's house is at -556 by 1947; the new
guildmaster, Morin Shadowbane, is in the village located at 1455 by 2319.

I've been logging the location of everything even moderately intersting in
Kithicor Woods lately.

Undated Everlore forums thread that talks about the addition in a recent patch:

Rane

You can use /loc to determine heading too. Sense Heading is VERY slow to get going. I find it is worthwhile to dump like 5 practicve points into it just to give it a little shove, and then hotkey it as already mentioned. As times goes on, you'll find that this is the first skill to max out each time you level, and it is a very useful skill imo.
Ranger's had 2 guilds--Kelethin, and Surefall Glade (onear Qeynos). The recent patch added a Ranger GM named Morin Shadowbane in Kithicor forrest which adjoins the toen of Rivervale

Cedarius, I am a 7th lev wood elf ranger also. I heard from some people that you should save up your points for spells later, or hobby skills, as many of the combat and wilderness skills go up with use. I know of one person who is 9th lev, and has only ever spent 1 point, (on magic to start getting manna I think). I put mine in one hand slashing at first, and some in forage and sense heading, but I will save for a while now. In fact i was going to anyway cause I hated having to go back to Kelethin or to Surefall to train.
I was wondering too if there were only 2 places to train for a ranger. The third in kithicor would be wonderfull, especially since the Mysty thicket is nearby. Do you know if it is allready implimented Rane?

The guildmaster has been activated in Kithicor forrest. Her name is Morin Shadowbane. She can be found near the Commens zone off the path to the North.

Helpfully, the following newsgroup post lets us date the above Everlore thread to sometime in late September / early October, because apparently for a brief period, Morin Shadowbane was female:

The NPC named Kithicor is not a Ranger guildmaster. (Unless they just
made him one in the last patch; haven't been out that way.)

The Ranger guildmaster in Kithicor is Morin Shadowbane, who mysteriously
changed into a woman in the patch before this, and just as mysteriously
changed back into a man I'm told in this patch.

Now of course this begs the question - was the Short Sword of Morin quest added at this time? The answer is yes. But, it was broken, and not fixed until October 1999. The Ghoul Messenger did not spawn.

Newsgroup thread with Brad post:

Hail and well met:
I have investigated the Ranger Quest - Sword or Morin. There has been
much debate on many message boards about the Ghoul Messanger that must
be killed. All posts say that the Ghoul Messanger is NOT in the game,
after mass attempts to find said Ghoul. There was only one post that
said someone's friend had seen the Ghoul (sounds dubious to me).

Can anyone "official" announce wether or not that the Ghoul is in the
game, and therefore, wether or not this quest is working.

(Makes you wonder why it called EverQUEST, don't it =)

Quest should be working after the next patch (Wednesday).

Sorry 'bout that.

Finally, from that same Brad thread, the SSoM was not HEF usable for a week or so, but HIE instead. Database error. It was corrected quickly so probably no reason to implement era rules for it, it's just a curiosity.
