And the game is officially out!
Just some notes: 1- Although you need to always be online (killing bounties, buying goods, selling goods, exploring systems, all of this impacts the global constants of the galactic market/balance), you can play in a Solo or a Group instance of the galaxy. The things you do will still shape what happens in other people's worlds and the main open server. 2- This game really isn't one that is going to hold your hand, as Pyrion says above. I felt it was worth writing up about this game here, because many of us who play EQ are here because we adhere to a love of when games treated you like a challenger, someone trying to beat it. Elite: Dangerous is this way, and I think many people here would like it. 3- There is a lot of room to grow, to upgrade, and definitely to explore. More content is planned in the near future, but the content now is definitely worth the $50. I am probably up to 200 hours at this point, if not more. | ||

I got a fine for attempting to dock at the wrong pad when I first started today. The docking tutorial doesn't tell you you have to pay attention to which pad you're assigned so I assumed the one right in front of me was mine, just like in the tutorial. Oh well.
Then later I had to go solo to get docking permission at a platform because I guess there were too many players taking up all the bays. Waited around for 10 minutes before saying "screw it" and going solo. That I don't like but at least I wasn't stuck waiting on possible AFKs.

I am tempted..but after reading some reviews it seems like a lot of the game is missing still. You end up in a rut of just running trade runs 1000x so you can afford the next ship. And then 2000x for next ship. It may just be a balancing issue but I don't want to invest my time into something like this. Game looks great otherwise tho...still pretty tempted. If it was F2P i would try it for sure and sub if I liked it.

^^ what he said. I'll wait till it's more fleshed out or discounted greatly. Doing the same with Star Citizen, not buying into the hype until it's non-instanced content is out and reviewed with a non-suck status.

yeah I was already intent on downloading when I realized it costs 50 Euros which is kinda steep, especially for a game that has mixed reviews and seems barely completed. But I want to say thank you for bringing this to my attention, it looks really great and I have been waiting for a nice Space Sim for a while

Freespace maybe infinitely cheaper, and maybe it's even the better game for you... but if you like realistic space (you know the endless real space), it's no match. No other game is.
