Just had a weird 20 years late epiphany
Soandso, the character you play in the original Everquest tutorial is named that because he is 'So And So'.
so-and-so /ˈsō ən ˌsō/ noun a person or thing whose name the speaker does not need to specify or does not know or remember. Huh. Am I an idiot for never realizing this? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] | ||

How are you still playing the tutorial 20 years later? I didn't think it even worked on P99/Titanium client.

Haha. It's not inconceivable that some people don't notice Soandso is so-and-so. I believe "so-and-so" is more common than "soandso;" and it's almost never capitalized. Perhaps the absence of the hyphens combined with the capital S and the fantasy setting prevented you from interpreting the word as a combination of English words. Something like that.
