I've seen this idea crop up before; sooner or later it's going to gain traction. It's even fair in the sense that electric vehicle users are effectively tax evaders since fuel taxes pay for much of our road maintenance. Unfortunately, in many cases it's also a backdoor means of trying to force tracking devices on everyone because quite often the lawmakers want to implement it via mandated GPS tracking rather than by eyeballing odometers. The mere idea of a mileage tax doesn't bother me overmuch, assuming they drop the gasoline tax at the same time (hah we know the odds of that one) but mandated tracking sure does.

I agree the electric vehicle owners are evading the gas tax but the gas tax is a flat tax that targets the poor and we should all be evading it!
Hopefully when americans reduce the intake of the political machine by buying enough electric cars, and they find out that they are going to have to pay more taxes this year for owning one and deducting their mileage every year, they'll see how absolutely stupid it is to have a flat tax like this.
Hopefully when the democrats are trying to push this legislation through (like this peace of trash pete butthole) those same democrats remember that the majority of people who are going to pony up for these types of taxes are the poor minorities that have to live outside of the area's they work for wages they say are half of what they need to be to pay rent.
