Default Cities of Norrath

Hello everyone, I make silly videos on the internet that some people may or may not have seen.

A few months ago I started a new series called Cities of Norrath where I break down the starting cities of classic EQ. The first episode can be found here: https://youtu.be/cfjLnTrg0Vo probably easier to watch than for me to explain the videos structure in this post.

However the reason for this post is not to plug my videos. As I mention in the link above, Qeynos was really the only city I knew well enough to show all the cool easter eggs and other interesting bits of information that the city has.

Moving forward with the series I am looking for help from the community to cover easter eggs and the like for the other cities. I have already posted the Freeport episode which ended up taking a more lore approach rather than easter eggs. I am currently working on Rivervale and either Halas or Neriak will come after that depending on the viewers vote in the last videos comments.

So please if anyone has any little tidbit or easter egg about any of these cities please let me know, I will be giving shoutouts in the videos to anyone who contributes, provided the information isn't just completely made up of course. [You must be logged in to view images. Fantastic video! - you briefly touched on the enemies of Qeynos leadership - would it be possible to link these factions to their allies in other cities?

For example, Halas rogue guild has much different goals than the rest of the city - who are they working with and why, if there's a reason. Something like that but explained better.

Yes that is a great idea. The main thing I have to work out with these sorts of things is how to implement them without interrupting the flow of the video. I will certainly look into the rogue guild in Halas and see if I can dig up some juicy info that might fit in, thanks!

I don't know much about Neriak or Halas, but I have spent a lot of time in Highpass Keep. It's one of the most unique zones in the game, I think it would be great for one of these videos. There's a lot of lore you could dig up here, most of it seems to be left incomplete by the developers.

• Carson McCabe is the ruler of Highpass and has his own faction. He seems to have shady connections all over Norrath. For example, killing some of the bouncers in Rivervale or the Halfling Rogue GM, Lendel Deeppockets, will drop your faction with Carson McCabe.

• There is a full-blown casino in on the second floor with blackjack tables, poker, etc.

• There is a paranoid NPC named Isabella Cellus who roams around the second floor of the zone spamming in /say that she believes someone is following her.. For what reason nobody knows.

• Various guards in the zone are named after classical composers
(Frederic Chopin)

(Johann Sebastian Bach)

• The top floor is Carson's personal living quarters where both his wife, Lady McCabe, as well as a Mistress McCabe live. Princess Lenya is being held captive in the zone by Lady McCabe with the help of Tyrana

That should be more than enough to get you going. It's one of the more underappreciated zones out there.

Funnily enough, Highkeep is actually the reason that this series exists. I initally wanted to just make a video called Best Zone Ever and it was just going to be all about Highkeep but the idea then evolved onwards from there. Highkeep I somewhat consider to be my all time favorite zone, I practically lived there back on live from the high teens all the way to 35. Thank you for all the info, it gives me a good idea of what sort of things to focus on when I do create that video.

For Neriak please include the hidden tunnels they have. These tunnels connect the 3 zones together, they don't really serve a known purpose that I'm aware of, no npcs.
I just recently did the symbol of innoruuk quest on my cleric and a leatherfoot spy uses those tunnels to traverse neriak undetected in that quest line, you eventually fight him in one of the hidden passageways. I will be sure to include it in the video somehow.

Your videos are amazing! I visit the forums all the time in the hopes that someone does something interesting/creative/fun with Everquest and most days I am disappointed. You should definitely "plug" your stuff here when you make it - I had no idea you made videos until I randomly happened upon your Freeport one. Needless to say I am looking forward to Rivervale!
I only got the idea to create this thread after I saw the thread on your Mysteries video haha. As for Rivervale it has been very exciting so far learning about the city. I agree that hobbits in this are extremely close to Tolkien's, I feel like the during the creation of everquest the developers were reading lots of Tolkien and Forgotten Realms stuff (everything to do with dark elves is very forgotten realmsy) and I am more than OK with that as those are my main sources of fantasy reading.

The druids and rangers of Surefall glade(Qeynos) are karana.
You are correct, Karana plays a big part in Surefall Glade possibly even more than Tunare due to their location. To be honest I kind of shoehorned Surefall Glade into that video and that is why I did not specify Karana was a part of it when I was talking about Dieties. Good pull tho, I will amend the video with an annotation.

Isabella Cellus, poped up in qeynos hill son superbits and bobs last vid.

HHK has a secret area on the top floor, at 100/n300, can be explored on zone viewer, but none knows how to get into it.

Are you talking about the secret vault area where Carson McCabe spawns? There is a way inside. That was my bind spot for a long time.
