Go to a starting city with a pool or small pond (freeport, neriak, felwithe just to name a few). Jump in the water in 1st person mode, hit the page up button or orient your view so that you're looking up at about a 45 degree angle, hit auto run so that you're moving forward, then hold left or right key and press enter. You'll continue to move forward and to the left or right, keeping your head above water, and your swim skill will increase. You wont drown because of your camera angle, best done at low level over night after you first make your toon.

If this is news to anyone...

Also you can go to Permafrost and run circles on top of the ice.

Ice skating = swimming in Norrath.

If you use snare instead of root, it wont break when you hit it with direct damages.

Basically what you want to do is, snare the mob, then run from it, and hit it with direct damage spells. You can even re-apply snare, on an already snared mob (Mad I know)

Another trick nobody has ever heard of is if you fear a creature, it will run from you, but you can dot it, and even hit it while It is running!

Its mad I know but these strats will set you up with a solid path to 60 for most classes.
