Scarab armor quest are decent but not much better than leather armor. If you get crushbone belts from orcs in crushbone you can turn them in for free leather. Leather should hold you a bit until unrest. Grouping may be hard though as melees (Tanks and melees) usually require a little bit of gear. However if you can make it to unrest you can get small chainmail and small bronze there.
Also the run to unrest is dangerous. I usually hug the right wall in Dagnor's Cauldron. Some people run through it but its not worth it to me.

Been away from EQ for so long that starter questions are pretty much all I feel like I can answer.
Ask a level 29+ magician politely for a summoned sword of runes 7/27. Hunt crushbone orc trainer for a shiny brass shield. For 2h the deepwater halberd quest for a 2hs is doable at level 1 however you will need some patience and it involves a minor exploit with the paladin on skeleton/spectre island. Maybe bank everything before heading out to OoT so you lose nothing but some time if someone is kiting spectres around wildly. Depending on your cash it's usually relatively inexpensive to find someone selling player made banded armor with the smaller pieces left on merchants near a forge. Patchwork leather from the orc belts or any of the hundred of venders people sold that to will tide you over till you can afford banded. This assumes you are a small race or near Kaladim of course.

OP, you can pick up a set of banded for like 100p that will hold you into the 20s-30s, or until you loot bronze armor. Also, depending on the size you wear, you might be able to go to zones where bronze drops and some encumbered people might just give you a few pieces.

Deep water harpoon quest is super easy if you can get a sow in the Oot

Cards dont stack, but arent lore. Fill up a few bags, head to OOT, turn in, and then hopefully you arent too encumbered to leave OOT [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Let me make sure I got this straight, what you're suggesting here is camp this cleaner clockwork, get a bag full of those cards from the turn in, then take the cards to OOT to turn in for a chance at banded/blackend iron, among some other cool rewards? Very cool starter quest there. edit: Look at all this juice you can squeeze from a deck of cards: http://wiki.project1999.com/Knight_Card_Quest

I was in bronze and blackened alloy by level 10 (the rat pelts and metal junk turnins still yield decent exp) on my green cleric. Fantastic starter quest

Once you're in your 30s the armor of ro quests are a solid bet. Fairly simple to acquire, just a lot of running around. I think the sharks in OOT are the fugliest part of the whole thing. That will carry you to planar gear which isn't all that great anyway.
