Can Necromancers 'Root Kiting'?

I decided to use my Necromancer lately and finally getting to close to level 34. I see at level 34, I'll get the new spells 'Invoke Fear' and 'Root'. I was wondering if it's possible to 'Root Kiting'?

What I mean is can I cast Root - Dooming Darkness - Invoke Fear - Dot/Send in pet?

I figure this way the mob will be rooted, slowed down and trying to run away but will stay in place while the dot ticks away on it and my pet attacks it.

No, if a feared mob is rooted it will still attack your pet.
