PLay whatever you like, just dont tell people TLPs are a positive EQ experience. I played on Ragefire or Lockjaw or one of those two and it was fun....for like 2 months max before there was no reason to log in besides "raiding" instanced bull shit content with my guild to get gear that meant nothing.
Instancing would immediately make P99 population fall to sub 500 within 3 months. I make fun of the "competition" on P99 regularly, but its better than the loot piñata (by a lot)

Instancing is the best thing to happen to MMORPGs, followed by no corpse runs. Just because classic Everquest did it doesn't make it best. It's in fact the opposite: a lot of what Everquest did taught future MMORPG developers what not to do.

Of course the pseudo-elitist purists hate on instancing because they are the lifeless shut-ins that play EQ like 12 hours a day for the real classic feel, but the normal, well-adjusted adults that want to experience old nostalgia love the TLP teddy-bear instancing because it allows you to experience it quickly and then move onto something else. I play EQ for a handful of weeks, mostly fucking around on alts in CB or MM, then after about a year or two and think "man EQ used to be fun" and do it again. What adult has that kind of free time to put into a video game? Classic EQ was soul crushingly demanding of your time. Normal people can't invest like that as adults.

Lack of time is one of the reasons I like P99: If it takes me 5 years to build up a character, I can get away with that here because the game's a static era and doesn't outrun my limited efforts at character advancement.

Mind you, I don't think this game's perfect by any stretch, and I regard instancing as a tool which has its place. I consider EQ more a case of, "take the good with the bad." There's enough good I like it, but it doesn't blind me to its faults, either. | ||

I really don’t understand how they justify charging 15 bucks a month. I refuse to pay that much for a game released in 1999.

It's why you are talking to this group instead of 12 month PUGs. Yes, it is better.
