The problem is that if they do this the server would lose a ton of credibility...who wants to play a game like EQ (a game that literally soaks YEARS of RL time to progress your toon) if there is even a hint of a possibility that the devs would pull the plug.
It really all boils down to what Rogean and Nilbog want to do obviously...the reality is they could wake up tomorrow and decide that they are turning the server off without a moments notice. People are putting a lot of trust in them that they aren't planning to do something like this (and that they are mentally stable---the #1 reason to not play on Toop's server imo is that he IS crazy enough to just delete everyone's data and restart the server on a moment's notice).

I don't think he would have to shut down the server, but maybe bring a new one up? Even with that though, it would probably cost more resources he doesn't have, plus there would still be a huge public outcry. Wasn't the end goal of releasing velious and getting it 99% classic to release the code to the public? Maybe I am getting this mixed with the SWGEmu goal. But if that is the case, maybe someone here would be willing to start a new classic server running parallel to project1999? A new server means a repeat of content, yes, but isn't that why we all create alts? Isn't that why most of us came back to p1999 in the first place? To relive the classic moments? Many individuals claim that the current environment does not simulate the classic feeling anymore because of the stagnation of content. What better way to fix this by creating a new server? Even Live would create new servers every so often for players to progress with a blank slate (of course those servers too would eventually catch up).
