The War of the Spider Queen series. OP named himself after Jeggred Baenre. The wizard in the group, Pharaum Mizzrym, is the reference I was making.
Since the Priestesses have lost their magic due to "The Silence" of the Gods it left the wizards as some of the most powerful, as such he took to giving everyone shit
when he could.. especially the Draegloth. In one of the later books he finally talks enough shit where Jeggred loses it and attacks him.

With a pinch of diamond dust the protective rune went up around his body blocking the claw attacks of Jeggred.
He slid on the glove he used throughout the books and took to throttling the demon with a large magic hand.
