I wiped my tiny hard drive all the time or upgraded all the time as I inherited larger drives and did clean installs so who knows what might be somewhere.

Same here. All my super old screenies were on older computers back when i didn't even think to preserve them. I didn't really start holding onto my screenshots until I was raid level, unfortunately.

Those are mainly from classic velious era, 2001. I don't remember many people using charmed pets back then, but maybe i just wasn't paying close enough attention.

That was late velious era iirc, on the Karana server (later merged into Antonious Bayle), and you can tell i was using a dialup modem [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

They were placeholders to let players know a new story npc was going to be added to the area soon (e.g. before an epic NPC would get added).

Personally, I hated them and found them really immersion breaking.

Actually i found the original .bmp files on an old file transfer cd : july 4th, 2001 for the first one and july 6th, 2001 for the second one.

Found some other fun stuff while looking for them screenshots, including the version 3.1 of Vaslin Slickfinger's EverQuest Compendium along with EqCaster.exe, and some saved web pages with their in era ads.

Mith Marr had some auction activity in G Fay but it was mainly located in N Freeport. You could always tell how many people were in the main area around the bank before you made the turn into the square as that's where the lag would hit you. It was a more lively situation then our current tunnel. There were plenty of evils hanging out in the backyards and tunnels of N Freeport.
