Hell. Maybe it's classic. I can't even begin to think of search terms to dig up classic sources on killing blows against a player giving you a defense (and maybe other stuff like block, dodge, etc.) skillup in chat but it not sticking with your character on account of the immediate death.

Agreed, insufficient evidence to warrant change, even if I never remember this on live but see it plenty here.

On the other hand it does make sense when you are a reincarnating perpetual that your best lessons in how not to die might come from when you die? I'm happy to chalk this up as a narrative device for now.
