I agree with Master Roshi. Choosing a magician or necromancer as a first character is always a good idea. Having a pet lets you get through those younger levels a little easier. A magician has to fend for herself for the first 3 levels but then you get a beefy tough pet and it's not a super complicated class to play. Necromancers have an easier time the first 3 levels as they get a pet at level 1 but they do have some faction issues and you will end up conning just about everyone you meet. A Necromancer get a long way with lifetap tanking but eventually the play style will change as critters get tougher and tougher. My recommendation is play both classes.

Whichever class you pick you're gonna have fun. I rolled a wizard as a first character and had a blast leveling that one up to late 50s and love that class. Meanwhile no one would ever suggest rolling a wizard because of a bunch of theoretical hurdles, etc.

i do gotta say a wizard isnt a bad idea - you kill appropriate level mobs in a matter of seconds, thus decreasing your chances of something going wrong (like a streak of bad rng on a melee). the downtime will break you [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Enchanter is the single most OP class and can be user friendly slow+animation And once you get a grasp on game Mechanics you can charm kill With best DPS in the game and all kinds of other things. Very little down time, powerful without gear, great at farming plat, everyone wants you on their group. Literally if you wanna pick one class that can do everything it’s enchanter.

Mage/necro if you want to cast spells, or monk if you want to be a melee fighter would be my recommendations.

One of the best starting classes to learn the game would be playing a druid

just my opinion but pick any class you want and learn from it

soon you will see your group mates doing things you wish you can do and might

want to try that and maybe see...maybe that's not my thing

it takes a lot of trial and error to find the perfect class for you

good luck OP hope to see you around Norrath

I was a total noob at this game not too long ago. My advice is to try all the classes. They all feel pretty unique, and all of the starting areas are quite different. It will all come together on one of your characters. Also, key bind sense heading.
