most of them are closed up and classified by the DHS as a threat to domestic interests. CBP collects the data but cannot release it. The record keeping is mostly done through independent journalists catching local stories via local law enforcement talking to the press. The government does not and will never release statistics on tunnels, for obvious reasons.

there could be over 100 active tunnels at this point. Wall is dumb. The (((Fat King))) could at least ask the DHS to take a peak at the numbers before talking out his ass but then he wouldn't be able to rile up his base anymore would he?

yeah it really ultimately is a policy issue the wall is pretty square peg with a round hole

but you're also missing the deterrent factor. having to use secret tunnels and even know where they are and the smugglers who operate them in the first place is above most people who come here, seeing as they're not literate in spanish these days. i imagine the language/culture barrier in mexico would also be pretty effective at keeping the illegal arabs out (fuckloads are using the southern border now; they get counted as hispanic in stats because they disguise their appearance and get fake citizenship in the looser regulated SA countries along their way, in order to get into mexico, which strictly regulates and has walled its southern border) which is a pretty solid boon to national security. just having the wall there will keep 90% people home.

You made a good point about the tunnels accessibility. You have to deal with Coyotes and they collect passport copies and identification of everyone they help transfer through the border. They do this so they can follow them and extort them as they live in the United States. Once you put a Coyote in your life, they never leave. They demand money or threaten deportation or death. Many tunnels and "underground railroads" are operated by such Coyotes who don't care if you die. Coyotes have left entire containers full of people to die on train tracks without unlocking the locks.

Access to tunnels is not something available to the public and its beneath all but the most desperate.

the wall is a bad solution because it does not address legal immigration namely h1b abuse, visa overstays, chain migration, quotas strongly favoring regions which do not provide valuable people, and anchor babies. and one could fairly argue it may not be effective at ending illegal immigration. however if you're not willing to repeal the 14th, nat act, and put these invaders into prison for breaking our laws fuck out of here though the wall's a better solution than anything you have to offer.

This would spend more money than the wall project. You would need to offer them enough money so that they're blinded enough by the cash immediacy that they forget their opportunities in the US. Not to mention they'd proly just come back after taking the money and running. Nothing will happen with immigration that is of any substance.
