Disarm...
Does it ever work?
I've had it hotkeyed to my kick button since I got it as a Ranger. I'm now lvl 40, and even put in skill points to max it out for my lvl. I have yet to disarm an armed npc but once. | ||

Your skill level always gonna be bad as a ranger, along with other skills like hide and sneak. You have them. They work, sorta. Just don't expect the results a pure melee with a 200 skill cap will get. In all honesty, be glad for the 75 cap. Disarm is a super annoying skill to level and both of my rogues are nowhere near maxed.

My question does it have any benefit in pve? Does a mob do the same dmg wielding a weapon as it does without?

Yes. You can turn a quadding foe into a doubling foe. But disarm has to fire off successfully twice. Even at 200 skill it takes luck.

Or the enchanter wants his or her charm pet's weapon back. It'll poof on the corpse unless disarmed.

And I'm positive you have to.

Disarming NPCs can actually *raise* the damage they do. Some NPCs have a preferred weapon type (like scythes on orcs), so if you disarm those, they'll do less damage. But if you were to disarm like a rusty two handed sword, the NPCs unarmed damage will be higher than if you left the very slow 2H weapon that's capped at the same damage as their dual wielded fists.
