Default 800pp Necro Gear

I've got ~800pp saved up for gear. Current gear setup is essentially starter Necro robe + cloth. What do you recommend are the priority purchases (after ac, hp rings)?

Cheers!

Honestly would put every penny into a pre-nerf CoS. Everything else is pretty irrelevant.

Terrible post, OP has nowhere near the money needed for a pre-nerf CoS, and even then, not a necessity more of a convenience.

Check out the Pre-Planar gearing guide on the Necro wiki page. It will give you some ideas of some nice INT/HP stuff for cheap.

Gatorscale Sleeves
Flowing Black Robe
Dagger of Marnek
55/65hp rings

Just to name a few items.

You'll definitely look to get both Journeyman's Boots and a Circlet of Shadow (prenerf). Those items, however, are quite expensive when just starting out. I believe the jboots will run you 6-7k and CoS will run you 12-15k or there abouts.

Both items are fantastic and you will never be able to live without them once you've tried them. But they are not essential to playing your class, leveling up, so don't stress overly about getting them at this point.

Sow pots, food / drink, bone chips and if under 20 a cheap/cheerful 2hb to melee with.

Bank the rest (after hp/ac rings as you mention in op).

Edit: a telescope or other global cooldown reset (star of eyes) is handy too.

Necro is one of the least gear dependent classes in the game. So don't sweat the gear too much. I recommend checking out the Shadowbound armor quest line as well as the quest for the harvester. They are fairly easy to obtain.

Do the shadowbound armor quests listed above + harvester.
Get the Kromzek Spyglass early from EC tunnel for cheap. You will use it a lot to reset spell gems.

Make a level 1 Agnostic DE enchanter. Get a mod rod from EC tunnel from a mage. Do the Janam & Rebby quests in freeport to either level 4, or level 3.5 (about 18 total trips). Get the remainder of exp needed for level 4 from Nektulos. Run the mail from nektulos to freeport 2-3 times if you're low on cash. Buy lvl 4 pet, lvl 4 choke, illusion: human, illusion: half elf, gate, invisibility. Now go do the Stein of Moggok quest yourself and save the cash on buying one. Doing the Janam + Rebby quests 18 times gives you sufficient faction in Human form alone for the freeport barkeep turn-in without Alliance. Alliance is not needed for other parts (Human for Erudin, Half Elf for the Honey Jum).

Make your own raw silk armor. Get your own Dagger of Marnek from Befallen at level 29 roughly, as you can single pull whatever and the camp is simple then. Make city level 1 mules and look for Words constantly. Ground transfer gems if needed for the alts to buy words. High level necros constantly farm Felwithe guards and more often than not they spent the 1.3k pp on Research skillups for their own needs and will combine words for you for cheap. You really want Hungry Earth, level 24 pet, and first pet haste buff bad.

From there, save cash for weight reduction bags because you will use them a LOT farming guards and other targets for FS drops to save money as you level. Don't forget to get a Forager bag from the Oggok shaman quest -- make a level 5 Ogre Shaman of Rallos Zek if needed. You can use him to do the quest with other characters as well as use him as a quest mule for Velious giant quests of different sorts.

Doing the above might look like you're trying to be cheap as hell and cut corners, but you want a pre-nerf circlet & Journeyman's boots bad. You might hit rough spots where you can't get the words or a combine done for a key spell you might need (lvl 34, 39, & 49 are the big ones). Don't be left without cash if you can bypass waiting for them.

Rokyl's Channelling Crystal: 10ac, 50hps/50mana (300pp)

Embroidered Black Sleeves: 4ac, 10hp/25mana (100pp)

Embroidered Black Cape: 4ac, 15hps, 20mana (100pp)

Spider Fur-Lined Boots: 6ac, 45hps, 5 CHA (250pp)

Tome of Miragul: Must be non-iksar! 6 INT, 50 hps, 50mana some negative melee stats (who cares). Also, can be equipped in offhand or primary. (250pp)

***I realize you might see CHA on the boots and think it makes no sense, but honestly a raw 45 hps boot slot is pretty significant for a caster. if you want to be more sturdy, these items above are the cheapest way to bulk your necro up as well as give raw mana. These raw hps/mana items will surpass most items till you are 30+ if you are thinking INT or STA is better for your caster.

I would suggest getting a Smoldering Brand to melee with, you actually can do a lot of damage with the necro taking/meleeing mobs. My necro is 23 atm, and I am still meleeing stuff. I also am still using the above items, and I personally find they give me tons of survivability. My 23 necro is running with 1000 hps, and 1200 mana with mostly cheaper hp/mana items atm.

Stat priority for necro leveling up hp -> mana -> int -> sta. And make sure you keep plat for spells. When I leveled up originally I couldn't buy enough spells for my levels because next to nothing vendors well at early levels.
