Hello P1999!
I'm starting on the green server tonight and was wondering what I should play. I really don't have much time sit and wait for groups (2 hour play times max) but would like to log on a few times a week and grind some EQ. It's been so long I'm just not sure what class to choose.

Shame no one answered you but the drama threads are alive and kicking.
If you don't have time to group then I suggest a class that can solo effectively. Enchanters can solo very well but have a pretty high skill cap and need charisma for many of their spells to work without breaking, High Elf is a good race for the enchanter. The necromancer can also solo well, class choice is up to you, I would recommend a class with high starting int but anything goes until Kunark when Iksar prevails. The magician is also a good choice, especially if you like pet classes, as they're dependant on them and most of the damage comes from your pet. Race choice doesn't matter much here. The druid can solo as well although not as effectively as the classes I already mentioned. Welcome to the server, and hope you enjoy your time here. I've heard that the community on green is mostly ok, but you may run into a few bad apples here and there, but that's expected. Have fun!

I started as a necro so I could solo work my way up and farm stuff for alts.

Enchanter is not easy but solos very well. It's what I play on green now. It has a in-depth learning curve.
I would recommend you go necromancer. they are great and can always solo or group. Mage too.

As others have said, necro or mage are good solo classes with necro being a bit better due to safety in FD and CC(ish). Necros will take more faction work, however. Even as a Dark Elf, as long as you are agnostic, a mage has quite a wide range of places they can go that aren't KoS. A necro... not so much.

Every class is good solo. Maybe except for rogue and warrior. Pick the one you like. Park your character in a dungeon and ask in ooc for group, quick grouping. Play another character if no opportunity for grouping exist.
