I remember snare (unsure if it was snare, ensnare, or both) breaking due to direct damage in pvp. Having a low level nuke memmed to nuke yourself to break snare was a tactic people used. I don't remember variable duration (en)snares.

I do not remember wrong. Not sure what your newsgroup covers, but in pvp it was a thing. I don't have an in-era link handy, but I played pvp in late kunark and through all of velious, and snares could be broken by using a dd.

Looking through patch notes, I see end of August 1999 was when they started having PvP roots break with dd.
