New char, newbie. Pally, War or SK

I usually like to tank in games and have good situational awareness. Are tanks as needed as I would assume from other games for almost all levels of content?

Or should I roll something that is melee but can tank decent enough(from what I've read) like Ranger or Monk?

I've even thought about a Wizard too for the ports, but haven't read anything good about them other than that...
