I mean, I like playing the game either way. But yeah, Blue is gonna be nothing but raiders logging in to hit raid targets and the odd soloer here and there after Green launches. The vaaaaaast majority of new accounts and toons will be on Green and without new players, eventually Blue will be a much less populated.

I don’t think people realize how broken of a server blue is when they say they think people will still populate Blue. It’s the EZ server with extra steps, having more money handed to you than you can possibly make on your own and then buying what is essentially classic endgame gear for practically nothing is super god damn boring compared to scraping buy with barely enough money to afford all your spells, doing quests for gear and wearing whatever you find. Sure you could do that if you want on Blue, but when you’re the only one in a group that isn’t wearing 80k worth of gear it really changes how the game plays for the worse.
tbh this is essentially correct except for the part where the loot casino is somehow the fun part of everquest

it depends on where the staff go with it, but if we keep on with the "blue isn't real" then it probably will be a wasteland for low levels while green still won't be that enjoyable for people who aren't extremely competitive or just looking for a quick nostalgia fix.

It’s not the “loot casino” that is what makes it fun, it’s having to work for literally everything instead of buying a whole loadout of gear for a pittance that is tons more fun.

Challenge is fun, being able to afford what was considered godly level gear on live with the gold someone camping guards handed you because it wasn’t worth them holding on to is the opposite of fun.

the only "challenging" thing about everquest in any incarnation from vanilla through whatever shitshow they're on now is having the free time to keep pulling the lever until you hit a payout

Personally, I think EverQuest is fun enough without being super competitive or just looking for a quick nostalgia fix. But with how fucked blues economy has been for the better part of a decade, people forget that the actual game from 1 - 50 is really enjoyable. It’s just most of the content is superfluous because of how fucked the economy is after being a stagnant raider pond for the better part of a decade.

Yeah yeah, super easy. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.][You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I guess it’s more of a love/hate relationship in your case.

Sorry you don’t enjoy it more or find it stimulating.

how what you call the "fucked" blue economy affects your game experience depends on whether you play for the loot casino, or maybe character progression if you want me to put it more charitably or account for alt-itis victims, or you play to enjoy the content with other people.

i play for the game and happen to get loot along the way, rather than playing for loot and enjoying content along the way, so blue's economy isn't fucked to me. otoh green sounds like absolute hell, with everyone in mega-toxic mode, myopically vying for chances to pull the lever in a way that will preclude anyone actually enjoying the game for the game.

ultimately those who believe Green will bring the magic back for them in a way Blue doesn't are just as naive as the people who believe Blue will go on as if nothing happened. anyone who's been part of the UO emulator scene knows how the cycle of more competitive people pushing out less competitive people with each reboot we're about to enter here goes.

I guess if the only way you can see possibly playing the game is seeking out loot levers and competing for a chance to pull them then you’d have a pretty dim view of the game.

Sorry you ended up this way? You know people will be having loads of fun grouping in low ZEM outdoor zones with no major loot drops, right? Because EverQuest is fun? No?

well i hope you're right that people will see it as a fresh chance to play the game for what it is instead of playing for loot, and if they do i'll be right there on green. but I think it's very naive. scarcity only makes people more toxic and obsessive. :3

I agree but I think the capacity for competitive players to ruin the game of less competitive players in UO is far greater.

But I'm always leery of any claims of a utopia on the horizon. It's human nature to set ourselves up for disappointment.
