got the coda of this symphony and the second movement blowing thru my head over and over even tho it's quiet morning time -_-
fun facts: there are several competing Hitler moments involving the slow movement (2nd) of this symphony. One story is that after the announcement of Hitler's death on german official radio, they played the symphony. However it abruptly cut out in the second movement. I am not sure if this is apocryphal, as finding any audio recording of the german radio at the time of the announcement seems impossible besides the famous "ist gefahlen" clip of like 6 seconds. Maybe a better researcher than me could answer if this is verifiable. The second anecdote, which bears a strange similarity imo implying something here is apocryphal, is an anecdote about Hitler entering some concert hall while this symphony was hitting the 2nd movement. I forget the context, it was like at a concert hall in Paris or something and something evil was going down. Anyway I'm not a Hitler expert or anything and bear the unfortunate personal distinction of developing a particular love for this symphony before i knew it makes me look liek a neonazi [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] at any rate these legends or facts are no doubt recorded because this symphony and its second movement are pretty profound bangers and basicly the pinnacle of post beethoven german muzak, never to be surpassed b4 or after teh national suicide. Unless you listen to commie muzak of course, cuz i'd argue russia hit its musical peak with shostakovich which was while they were beating hitler's ass. And it might be a little more impressive to me than brilliantly adapted hymns and whatnot. Innovation vs perfection. Maybe I change my mind when im older less excitable. | ||
