Get to level 26-27 and go get in the Goblin groups in High Hold Keep. Even if you have to wait an hour or so to get into the group, it's well worth it. You'll get to level 35 rather quickly, and can make 2000-3000p from the goblin ears you acquire over that time. Awesome way for a new player to build some starter funds.

That seems like a really good offhand for the price, I could even afford that now! Are they often sold in the tunnel? I'm trying to be the Indiana Jones of Norrath

They are VERY common and usually about 130p. If set on the DW path it's a great weapon until lvl 50 when it procs snare. After that it's just more situational but still a great ratio.

I'd prob change it out for a Club of the Ice Ocean at 51, also cheap (about 500p), 14/27 with a 149dd proc.

After reading what others have to say I think my ultimate goal is to get a Woodsmans Staff ASAP, but just looking for a cheap offhand in the mean time as it will probably take a bit to acquire the 4k I would need for the staff.

Just keep grinding.
Agree. 10/22 is a great weapon. No lvl 16 has 1000s of plat except for alts/twinks. Good gaming!

I'm a little late to the party, but the wiki has an entire "guide" (really just a large collection of ideas/suggestions) for places to earn plat. Check out the link for the Treasure Hunting Guide in my signature.

But really the best advice is:

EverQuest isn't linear when it comes to plat and XP. In other words, it's not like you can earn 1/6th of what you can earn at level 60 when you're level 10: it's actually a lot less than 1/6th (under ideal conditions a level 60 can make 1k+ an hour, but a level 10 can't even make 1/10th of that, ie. 100 plat/hour).

So, on the one hand this is a game, and you should do whatever is the most fun for you, but on the other hand IF you want to be smart/efficient about gaining power as quickly as possible, you should focus on leveling (and only spending the plat you earn while leveling) as much as you possibly can until you hit 60, and only then farm plat.

P.S. There are a very few exceptions to what I just said, for classes with certain key equipment. Charming classes may want to do a little early plat farming to get a Goblin Ghazugi Ring. because it will save them a lot of leveling time. Similarly a 45 shaman might want to farm a few k so they can afford their JBB. But aside from exceptions like that, it's pretty much always faster to level than to farm plat.
The only useful post from this thread.

Level first then farm plat. EQ is a race of who spends more time. More time spent = better gears/plat. Accelerating the process in accumulating wealth is all about maximizing plat return vs time spent.

You focus on making plat at lvl 20 means you will always be the bottom of income pyramid. The wealth gap between you and avg player will continue to widen day by day.

I disagree, I have found many posts useful as I asked about weapons upgrades. Many people had great suggestions, including loramin.

Glad you dont listen to that. Thats a pure min max perspective. Grinding mindlessly to 60 is simply awful. And even then, plat is always tough to come by. I’ve been in many fungi camps and i never won a friggin tunic. I’ve been in plate house for hours on end and never won legs or bp. RNG is really part of the game and when it wants to screw you up it does it very well ^^ The challenge also lies where and how u can make good plat at lower level and afford a woodman staff before lvl25.

If you are willing to gamble, there is a very little known quest that can get you 3k in less than 20min. Can be completed by lvl1. Its not for the faint of heart tho, its either you loose or win. I love this quest coz its a complete thrill. Its called Shiny Robe of the Undefoot.

Step 1 : farm 1k to buy Shining Metallics Robe
Step 2 : make a halfling rogue worshipping Brell Serillis, xfer robe to that toon. Port him to toxx, ask druid to escort to paineel, ask for bind by lake.
Step 3 : jump into lake, duck thru upper crack in rocks, zone into Hole
Step 4 : into the Hole, you arent KoS to elementals, golems and flighty fiends, however undeads and rats will smack you, so sneak & hide when u see first rat before city entrance.
Step 5 : find Kejar the Mighty (beware, he pops and depops every 20min so he might not be up when u first arrive)
Step 6: you are KoS to Kejar and Schnozz, you need to sneak & hide behind Kejar. Before turning robe, make sure you hit un-hide otherwise he will kick you in the nuts.
Step 7 : hope for the best.

Many will say its the worst advice ever given to a newb, but Im willing to believe its one of the most profitable way to make decent amount of cash within super short time and effort. It costs 1k, and can make 3k. 3k in less than 30min. If you fail, well you loose 1k. At your lvl it can be quite «*dramatic*»

If you happen to do this quest and fail, just provide me screenshot of «*shiny hunk of metal*» and I’ll pay you back the robe cost.

The truth is always ugly. Go ahead and farm your plats at level 20, actually, I should say enjoy farming your golds and silvers, while even the slower plat camps like seb NG yields 100x faster returns.
