Credit actually to BB King in How Blue Can You Get. They sampled his line "I've been downhearted baby, ever since the day we met." The Boss wasn't involved in this one.

Anyone have link to an unhinged screed against backyard/urban farming?

I'd really like to confirm my opinions without having to think too hard.

I’m on half an acre now but was on 2 acres on the previous house. I found taking care of the grass and blackberries to be a PITA l (but that was WA state). Now I live in a red state in the mountain west, but property is so expensive compared to Texas.

With that said, I think I can sell my house now for $850k and take the proceeds of $500k and buy up acreage and build a home in Texas. Having never been there, I have no idea what’s good and what’s not. I’m kind of drawn to the area between Waco and Dallas/Ft worth because I think the economy is decently strong in that area.

But I’ve also looked at Abilene, Lubbock, and Amarillo. I prefer less desert areas, so Dallas wins there, but really what I’m looking for is flat, 10 to 20 acres, within an hour of moderate metro, trees and water.

I’d like to grow a lot of my own food because I think there’s some shit in the works that’s going to make getting a decent meal harder and harder to get.

Nice. Sounds like you've got a plan! When I sold and relocated from UT i was heavily considering Texas. I ended up deciding against it bc there's just too many fucking people over there. I picked a small town in WY instead. I'm still not quite to the homesteading part yet...but at least I own it and avoided a mortgage.

I’m basically in the same climate as Wyoming as of now, just got 12 inches of snow last night. The winter is so long I think it prohibits growing much. Obviously people do, but I’d prefer somewhere a little warmer.

Default Apartment homesteading?

Hiya.

I just moved and am looking to get into gardening on my balconies with potted plants. I live in a year-round sunny area save two or three months.

I was also looking into off-grid living but for now it seems my destiny is to be here.

Anywho, thought I would mention a YouTube channel I enjoy about homestead and off-grid living, maybe you'll like it too, if you don't know it already. Look up Bushradical. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
