Miscellaneous: NPC loot issue

For days I was hunting Deputies in Rivervale. They consistently dropped a Spear, Sheild and Ring 100% of the time.

Out of the blue, yesterday, they randomly stopped dropping a shield, yet the shield graphic was on the NPC. They still had the Ring and Spear.

The last clearing I did they suddenly started dropping the shield again. When I loot the shield, the graphic disappears off the corpse. However when the shield was showing graphically on the NPC it wasn't in the loot on the corpse.

I don't know if this was a fluke or not.
