Default EQ crashing upon startup

When I double click on the modified eqgame to run EQ, i get a error EQgame has encountered a problem and has to close.

Then it exits before it even loads up. I did all the spell files and changes needed.

Any known way to fix this?

More information required - first of all are you clicking on a link that runs eqgame.exe patchme? What OS (Windows 7?) Did you try reloading EQ?

Regards,
Mg

Try right clicking the icon, going to properties. Go to the compatibility tab then check 640x480 mode.

Happened to my girlfriend (her laptop is 1440x900 and XP) and a friend (unsure of his laptop's resolution but it's Vista), this fix worked for both.

Change your resolution in Windows to 1280x800 (right-click the desktop, select properties and click the last tab, appearance i think, and the resolution slider is there) and the game should launch. Then close it and change your resolution back and the next time you launch EQ it will be in a 1280x800 window.

Had this exact same issue, and my steps to resolve were similar to what km2783 posted.

1. Change your desktop resolution to anything 4:3, [such as 1600x1200, 1024x768, etc.].
2. Launch EQ [it should launch now].
3. Enter the game, open the options window, go to the display tab, make sure to uncheck "switch to fullscreen mode" [you want to be in windowed mode] and select a display resolution to your liking.
4. Camp
5. Change your desktop resolution back to whatever you like.
6. Launch EQ [it should start normally in windowed mode now from your native desktop resolution].

My settings were:
Desktop native: 1920x1200
Desktop temporarily altered: 1600x1200 [4:3]
EQ window setting: 1680x1024

Specs:
WinXP Pro
Geforce 7950GTX 512mb
