Demons & Wizards' album 'The Crimson King' is based on this books series. It's actually the only book I've ever read (back in 8th grade for an assigned reading assignment). Still have it somewhere under my bed.

new book in the DT series. it takes place between books 4 and 5 i believe. google for more infos.

I read the dark tower series as a youngster. I remember it starting out very entertaining, but lost a lot of steam when they got to the city of lud? And then the stupid train thing...

A lot of Kings work is derivative, and this was him trying to emulate Tolkien. I think he failed.
