I haven't been really following this forum since it's been so long since I played P99, I got logged out on my phone somehow and have been too lazy to deal with re-setting my pw
I'm still logged in on my computer and from skimming this it's frustrating how much has been said about this stupid classified documents crap without mentioning this:
The documents were largely stuff about Trump, stuff Trump "wanted the public to know about". What a surprise that Trump would take stuff about him. I'm sure the haters have a huge chubby in anticipation of them being state nuclear secrets but I'm going to spoiler alert your future disappointment
The president has the authority to de-classify whatever he wants whenever the F he wants, so Trump is claiming that he kept that stuff because he de-classified it. But he forgot to fire up the labelmaker and put a de-classified label on the boxes, so he's still in trouble. He probably straight up forgot to de-classify them or was putting it off and now is trying to backtrack. Here's more info on that:
"As for the president's power to declassify materials, here's some background on how it works, according to current and former intelligence officials familiar with the declassification process. First, a U.S. president does have uniquely sweeping declassification abilities, though there is a process that involves written documentation and several other steps. It's not the case that a president can declassify documents with just verbal instructions. His instruction to declassify a given document would first be memorialized in a written memo, usually drafted by White House counsel, which he would then sign"

- He didn't fire up the laminator label-maker and slap the D/C sticker on them and now he's in big trouble
