Default Giant Fire Beetle Eye requires components

The Giant Fire Beetle Eye (a drop from the Queen Klicnik in North Qeynos) has one charge of Enchant Silver.

On p99, this works the same as the spell, meaning you need to have a a silver bar in your inventory to enchant it.

In classic, I remember getting one of these eyes on a newbie character that didn't have any silver. When I used it, it created an enchanted silver bar even when I didn't have any silver bars.

I realize this is poor evidence and a low priority issue in any case.

I forget, this is an instant cast item correct?

http://www.project1999.com/forums/sh...t=Bladestopper

In this thread people discovered that the way classic client code would preform an inventory check on whether you have the proper reagent for a casted spell, was during the casted phase of the spell.

Meaning, clickies which are instant cast, wouldn't actually perform the reagent check and therefore couldn't fail it. So you didn't actually need the reagent to click.

Here's probably the evidence you're looking for:

Quote:
The eye casts Enchant: Silver. Note: You do not need silver to cast this; it will summon the enchanted silver. Legs sell for a gold or two at the vendors, I believe. Great for all the young wanna be enchanters.

If the cast time was zero, it's probably related to this thread:

Also, worth noting, the version which has enchant silver should probably not be dropping anymore. I'm guessing from your post you're saying it is.

Queen no longer drops the enchanted giant fire beetle eye, and now only very rarely do hatchlings appear.

Yes, I believe the cast time is instant.

It dropped for me sometime in the last two months on p99

Another post from July 1999 confirming the above:

Yes, anybody can create an enchanted bar of silver using the eye. And,
from what I've seen only Queen Klicnik's eye does this, other eyes I
have gotten from Giant Beetles in West Karanas don't have this. You
just put the eye anywhere in your inventory and right click on it. It
will put a brand new enchanted silver bar in your mouse pointer. Note
that it is also relatively rare, I've killed Queenie Klicnik maybe 30
times and have gotten 2 eyes to date.

Fixed, pending update

-Prior to June2000, Giant Fire Beetle Eye has 1 charge of Enchant Silver that does not require a reagent
-June2000 and onward, Giant Fire Beetle Eye has no charge of Enchant Silver
