He was just quitting, as far as I know. I haven't heard of anyone else getting banned for this.... Kinda messed up, imo.

Well, I'm banned...so I basically don't have the cloak or anything else.

Someone in my guild got in trouble for this too. He picked up a bag in the tunnel that was full of PoM cards. I'm not sure if his account got banned but I remember him saying he was in tells with a GM a day or two ago regarding it. He said something like the guy who dropped all the stuff WAS RMT'ing, but he was just trying to unload his inventory to scrub the account. This is all 2nd hand info so take the accuracy of any of that with a grain of salt, but I imagine this was the same incident. Hopefully the GM's can clear the mess up and unban you if you indeed did nothing wrong. IN GENERAL though good advice is if something is too good to be true, it is, and if a fungi, or a hiero cloak or whatever else literally falls out of the sky into your lap, it's probably dirty in some way.

I never seen someone dropping random nice items in the tunnel, but every great while someone comes through that is obviously liquidating a character's items by selling cheaply. If I buy from them and notice the cheap prices, I ask them if they are quitting or why are they selling stuff, and both times they guy said they were taking break from the game and just wanted to clean off some of their alts.

I always wondered to myself though if it was true, or if someone was cleaning off an account they had access to without permission. If this was the case, I don't see how you get banned when you unwittingly bought items thinking it was just good deals. Sometimes people actually do liquidate items cheaply for different reasons.

I guess that's the difference though, this stuff was just dropped freely?

Wow we can get banned now for picking up bags on the ground? Shits classic though! When I was playing on live I found a bag once with a full suit of cloth and an advisor robe. I thought I won the lottery! A fucking graphic robe on my 7 enchanter? Yes please!

Sorry to hear about your account though man

Sounds like "hey man just got your paypal, thanks. I'll drop your items over here so there is no trade record and you will have an alaby!"

My thoughts exactly, or at least this would appear to be a method to avoid obvious detection. Can't blame the GMs though for banning to be safe, would probably raise a red flag if picking up ground spawns of 80k+. Better safe than sorry.

Not saying OP did this obviously, sounds like others verified this toon was dropping a bunch of stuff.

In future maybe best to petition: "I saw some toon dropping stuff all over the tunnel, expensive stuff. I picked up a bag full of XYZ, is it OK I keep it? Not sure if someone's account was hacked and they are dropping all the person's gear. I will not sell / equip / trade it until I hear from you"

I got a heirophant's cloak, and few other items work a few thousand. It was a gnome named Amazonprime or something like that, several weeks ago.
A bunch of other people got stuff, too. Was super weird.
So a toon named "Amazonprime" is dropping items on the ground worth tens of thousand of plat, you take one of those items under obvious shady circumstances and wonder why your account got banned?

Sorry but no sympathy here.

If people are dropping hiero cloaks I need to spend more time in the tunnel!

I feel like a newbie for asking but what is RMT'ing?
