Run and msconfig, on the boot tab click "advanced options". Select number of processors and set it to 1. Reboot and try again.
After pulling my hair out trying to figure something out, this was the last thing I did that seems to have worked.

I had the multicore issue for a while and tried many of the fixes online to no avail.
What worked for me is to run eq using an XP vm with 1 processor and 1G of RAM. I am loading EQ from a shared folder and it runs perfectly now.

Try it out - you may be surprised

The only one that worked for me was to edit the msconfig to have it boot up with 1 core... which is sort of a pain. I thought there was some patch or download (AMD dual core patch) that fixed this issue a while back?

  1. Right-click the program icon on your desktop or the shortcut on the Start menu for the program you want to run, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Compatibility tab, and change the compatibility settings for your program.

Only applied it a few minutes ago, but so far it's a HUGE improvement.
FYI: Windows XP SP3 with AMD Athlon XP 64X2 (Yes, I know it's old now)

When I go to the compatability screen like the post above me, The option to run in another mode is greyed out so I cannot select it. It says that the program is part of windows or something like that. Any idea how to change that?

Thanks

Hello gang,

I'm trying to figure out if my issue is related to Multi-Core before I go ahead with this fix.

The Problem:

I log in to EQ, and make it to the server select screen just fine. Every server is listed. Once I click on any server, including 1999 classic - it will show the loading screen, get about half way on the loading bar and instantly log off. Back to the log in screen I go.

Would this be related? Should I just uninstall, and reinstall?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,
Etris
