As much as I would love to see this mob in game, I believe she was added later sadly. The "mistress" Caud is referring to in era is actually Helsia Mindreaver, as is clear by his description of Castle, which is directly right from the entrance and whom is very hard to get solo. Latazura is much further in SG in the tunnels below temple and it seems likely he would have desribed temple, and the long path to L if that's what he was actually referring to.

I dont buy that the term Mistress was used to describe Helsa Mindreaver. Mistress was in her location of course on launch Velious based on his statements. The rework likely moved her later on to the spawn point below the temple.

Apologies, actually I think you are correct on this, after more thoroughly reviewing the details in this thread and others. The additional combat description here: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...8&p=2#comments is clearly talking about castle, which is consistent with Caud's comment. I can show some screenshots that make this clear if it's useful to GM's.

So vague timeline is:

dec 5 - velious launch
dec 11 2000 - caud describing named mistress - https://i.imgur.com/8APkjm5.png
feb 21 2001 - clear evidence describing the instrument exists and people discussing - https://web.archive.org/web/20010710...html?item=4896
nov 13 2001 - still fighting mistress in castle, description is consistent with the difficulty of pulling her - https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...8&p=2#comments

So I think this is definitely correct and in era. Wonderful find!

The only remaining question I think is still the relationship with Helsia. It's clear Helsia was around in 2002 and even then there was some question around whether she was a PH for Mistress L. and then she was promptly removed in 2003 revamp. See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=10212 specifically "It seems she is the PH of Mistress Latazura. She drops the BP/robe gems for armor quest too."

Do we have any evidence that Helsia is actually in era? Is it possible Mistress L. should simply replace her?

"Took about 6 deaths but i found out, if there is a full spawn in the tower you can single pull this guys with 0 to 1 add. Being a pally my pull spell is cease. I stood between the 2 icys at the entrane door to the tower and popped her from across the room. ran down the ramp in the tower that drops into the water and did not stop till i was at the zone out and i stopped."

Was still in tower June 19, 2002. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...8&p=2#comments

100% She is a tower mob in our timeline where helsa is.

Helsia also exhibits very strange behavior by spawning in 2 different spots instead of one.

I believe they are both in era, here is some discussion on the Bowl (which only drops from Helsia) in April 2001 here: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=5775

TLDR; Both in era, Helsia perhaps currently incorrectly occupying both spawn spots.

Helsia is in era based on what I'm seeing.

This item was dropped last night by Helsia Mindreaver also.

Possibly just at the very end of timeline.

What IS in era dropping "Bowl of Watery Protection" is Elna Kelpweaver who also drops siren hair locket, siren hair earring, spells 55+, and bp gems.

https://web.archive.org/web/20011226...shtml?zone=122

This is December 2001 no Helzia.

I started by assuming Bowl was a unique drop. Did searches on it, checked comments. Looked for dates the items from Mistress and Helzia were added and I found an issue. Bowl of Watery Protection was added early Velious.

I pulled up bestiaries for the zones and found no Helzia, but what I did find was Elna Kelpweaver. Which was in game and dropping Bowl.

https://web.archive.org/web/20020828....shtml?id=7014

I also found information that Helzia in 2003 was spawning at any location a siren could spawn. And another person confirming she was not a PH.

She is not the PH for Mistress Latazura. She spawned in place of a normal siren, and not in the spot where Mistress Latazura normally spawns.

First person to post Helsia in Illia's SG page. While the first comment about Helsia I see is Nov 20 2001, the first reference to her on Illia's is March 2002.

As for Elna spawn location: Took a group to the well and she spawned at the top of the stair case in the well.

We just finished up in SG tonight and found another named mob right near the Mistress. Her name started w/ a Hel___ something. Conned level 60. Dropped a bow 25/55 war/rang effect: sirens embrace (or something like that). We determined this is a type of snare effect.

Elna Kelpweaver is already in game on P99 and I have killed her.

This is the well they are referencing

Here is the staircase leading up

And here is where Elna spawns.

In the times I have killed her, she has dropped nothing besides normal siren loot.

TLDR; Helsia shouldn't exist until Nov 2001, bowl of watery protection should be on Elna, and Mistress L should be in the spot Helsia currently is
