Stuck on Character Select

So, I played on the green server for a couple of months when the game first released. I also have been playing on the blue server since 2009, always using the same install method etc.

However, for the last 2 years I have periodically tried to login to the game and everytime I try to "Enter World" from the character select the music plays, but I never get into the world. It just stays frozen on that screen. If I force close the client and then try to log back into the game it says that I have an active character in the world. This has been going on for almost 2 years now that I haven't been able to log in and have tried at least 3 separate fresh installs. I thought maybe with the new patch v54 files something might change, but still the same issue.

Any ideas from anyone? I'm not very good when it comes to trying to troubleshoot anything PC related.

Update: Tried all the normal workarounds with no luck. Finally read a post about needing a VPN to log in, so I tried logging in with my phone as a hotspot and it worked just fine. I know nothing about networking, ISP stuff, or VPNs. Can someone help me figure out how to set something up to bypass whatever this issue is?
