Default Soooo apparently Solro does the necromancy.

Research Notations

Marnek was the leader of a
small cult of necromancers who
worshipped Solusek Ro. Marnek
used this dagger in his
ceremonial sacrifices to the
Burning Prince to increase his
own power and show his loyalty
to his god. His cult grew
stronger and word of the evil
acts spread all over Antonica.
Legend has it that a group of
paladins, followers of Prexus
from Erudin spent over 10
years searching out Marnek and
his followers and finally
destroyed them.

Though Marnek's evil reign was
put to an end, many of his
books and items are still
being uncovered to this day.
The Dagger of Marnek is now

being used by the evil
inhabitants who control the
depths of Befallen.

annndndndnd

he rezzed up this undead pally Kenox to guard this burning dead wand lol

what a great guy!

Research Notations

Many have heard of Marnek
Jaull, the ancient necromancer
who commanded a cult known as
the Burning Dead -- all devout
followers of Solusek Ro, the
Burning Prince. The legends
say that Marnek wrote tomes of
powerful magics and even
created items of great power,
the most notable being the
Dagger of Marnek and the Wand
of the Burning Dead. But it
is more than legend. Marnek
truly does possess vast
knowledge and power and those
legendary items do in fact
exist.

Marnek spent many years of his
life at the forefront of a
reign of terror on Norrath.
Perhaps his greatest enemies

were the paladins of Prexus,
the Oceanlord. They fought
many battles and it was
thought that the paladins put
an end to Marnek -- and that
is where the legend begins and
the truth became veiled.

The truth is written in a
volume named, Fire and Water
and the Wand.

Fire and Water and the Wand

The truth of what happened to
Marnek Jaull the day the Wand
of the Burning Dead caused a
mighty explosion can only be
told by one -- Hagad
Starshine, the only survivor
of that day. Hagad was a young
Deepwater Knight and squire to
the great Sir Toran.

During those times, there was
a foul Erudite named Kenox who
joined the Burning Dead many
years prior. During the years
of war with the paladins of
Prexus, he chose to betray
Marnek by making a deal with
the Deepwater Knights. He
would tell them where Marnek
was if they would promise him
freedom. Kenox told the
paladins of his great plan to

steal the Wand of the Burning
Dead, which would leave Marnek
helpless.

But the Knights betrayed
Kenox. When they arrived to
meet Kenox in a secluded bay,
they took Kenox and the Wand
of the Burning Dead that he
had successfully stolen by
replacing it with a false one.

But Marnek had played them all
for fools. As Sir Toran laid
his hand on the wand, it
exploded with great force and
tore the ship to pieces and
killed all the men, but one.
As the explosion occurred, a
small splinter of the wand
lodged itself deep into
Hagad's cheek, somehow
protecting him as the flames

burned around them all.

As Hagad watched the ship and
his crewmen burn, he prayed to
Prexus to save the sailors,
but the god did not. Instead,
Prexus moved the tides east so
that Hagad's body would be
found by a passing sailor
named Whent. While Prexus
protected Hagad, Solusek Ro
chose to use Kenox as a vessel
for his power so that Prexus'
pet would never gain control
of his faithful Kenox.

With his newfound power, Kenox
was able to lord over the
undead knights and command
them as he wished, but they
are all condemned to remain
under the sea else they
experience great agony. He
sent them to Deadbone Reef

until their time would come, a
time when they would find
themselves engrossed in
rebuilding the Wand of the
Burning Dead and seeking out
Marnek so he may feel Kenox's
vengeance.

Makes me think of the undead knight in qeynos aquaducts, though I suppose the story there is really just a young storm or life knight killed and disposed of in the sewer by plague knights.

Good job on digging out this lore. Always wanted to know more about Marnek.

seems like we were building up to an epic battle with a Marnek expansion [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

would have been cool of some silly dagger from the start of the game turned out to be instrumental in defeating the bad guy 7 years later.

So Marnek is an IRL reference.

Sol Ro is the Prince of Fire - Princes are high ranking officers of Empire. Fires needs fuel.

Fossil fuels are the long dead remains of living creatures, which can be burnt to release energy.

How does this tie together? Well. Marnek, founder of Sol Ro cult ‘The Burning Dead’ is an anagram of ‘Enmark’.

For those not familiar with Enmark:

Colonial Group Inc.
Enmark is a subsidiary of Colonial Group Inc., a private company with extensive ownership in oil and gas-related companies. Colonial was ranked 59th in Forbes magazine's 2012 listing of the nation's largest private companies.

Marnek’s struggles with the knights of Prexuz is a reference to offshore oil drilling operations and the shipwrecks and oil spills related to them.

Wake up people. He's just free associating and making it up as he goes along. Everyone knows that Marnek is a corruption of Marlboro, a subsidiary of Phillip Morris whose main product is tobacco, an addictive substance. Brad McQuaid was being forced to design a product that mirrored his experience with cocaine in order to aid Japan (QEYNOS = SonyEQ!) in conquering the United States by ruining a generation of potential soldiers.
