Default leveling up piercing

I don't remember having trouble leveling up weapon skills.
My gnome bone knight uses a dagger, is level 11 w/ piercing at 30~. I stab a lot and almost always attack mobs that give me exp. Is it normal for necros to lvl weapon skill slowly when they are used a lot?
If it is normal I won't fuss, much.

You are probably just used to playing classes with higher weapon skill caps.

Yeah, I am. But the weapons skill level always was maxed at the time I reached the next character level. I never noticed weapons level with casters because it didn't matter before. Do casters level this slower?

could it be stats? doesn't dex increase the rate of rate weapon skills are increased? and naturally a caster would have a lower stat than a melee

Sounds like you’re hitting cap for the level. I’ve seen caster caps reported in classic to be the number above current level trebled, ie 3(11+1)=36.

OK! That helps a lot. I was thinking it would lvl up like everyone else. Now doesn't that mean I will do less damage in melee? Putting all those points into dex sure makes the characters I've tried this with more durable.
