Proposed solution, when a pet goes to run at a player or other npc - check if master is alive, else pet suicides. Only on initial aggro ofc.

Gotta be harder than I made it sound

Topic : NPC Pets

This came of the official EverQuest message boards.

anyone notice how when you kill the master of the pet, the pet doesn't also die like our pets do ?

It's not a bug, but rather another case where NPCs do not follow the same rules that PCs do, such as not being able to drown, fall for damage, etc.

However if you kill NPCs in one hit (Excessive damage) their pet will die with them.

If I remember correctly, the reason a one shot kill on npc would also kill the pet is due to the pet not having a chance to agro the pc before the npc death check takes place.
